La Última Palabra: A mezcal riff on "The Last Word"

Updated: Apr 8

What the hell is La Última Palabra you ask? Why it's just your classic Last Word cocktail made with mezcal instead of gin. A mezcal riff on a classic cocktail, seemed the perfect way to celebrate the work of Mexican modernist Pedro Ramírez Vázquez, whose work infused classic modernist architecture with references to Mexico's rich artistic culture. Did you miss the post on Pedro Ramírez Vázquez? You can access it here. Ironically, despite its abundance of great cocktail bars, it wasn't in Mexico City that I first tasted La Última Palabra, it was at the Ash Bar in Detroit. (Which also has a lot of great cocktail bars.)

This cocktail is a gorgeous chartreuse color that is perfect for welcoming spring and admiring the first spring blooms from the deck.

Recipe

2oz. mezcal

3/4oz green Chartreuse

3/4oz Maraschino Liqueur

3/4oz Lime Juice Pour ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Pour into a chilled coupe and garnish with a cherry or lime wedge.
