What the hell is La Ultima Palabra you ask? Why it's just your classic Last Word cocktail made with Mezcal instead of gin. A Mezcal riff on a classic cocktail, seemed the perfect way to celebrate the work of Mexican modernist Pedro Ramirez Vasquez whose work infused references to Mexico's rich artistic culture and unique Mexican materials like lava stone into classic modernist architecture. Did you miss the post on Pedro Ramírez Vázquez? You can access it here. Ironically, despite its abundance of great cocktail bars, it wasn't in Mexico City that I first tasted El Ultimo Palabra, it was at the Ash Bar in Detroit. (Which also has a lot of great cocktail bars.)
This cocktail is a gorgeous Chartreuse color that is perfect for welcoming spring. Perfect for enjoying on the deck while admiring the spring blooms.
Recipe
2oz. Mezcal
3/4oz Chartreuse
3/4oz Maraschino Liqueur
3/4oz Lime Juice
Pour ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Pour into a chilled coupe and garnish with a cherry or lime wedge.
